Abusive drug addicted mother and a sister with cystic fibrosis, Selena Kyle joined the Leopard gang to earn money for her sister’s medications and food by stealing and paid fights. She’s incredibly intelligent, top of her class, and talented gymnast, giving it all up for the love of her sister.

Selena, at seventeen faces losing her sister and going to jail or become something else when she is recruited by the League of Assassins. Only to return to Gotham two years later as Catwoman, with the League hunting her and her own personal mission. She has a plan starting with stealing from the rich and powerful and thumbing her nose at Batwing and the cops as well as recruiting Ivy and Harlequin to join her crime sprees.

Luke is Batwing, working behind the scenes to save the city while Selena works to destabilize it. He took up the Batwing persona to help fight crime in the city as well as to help himself cope with his PTSD. When Selena moves into the neighboring penthouse as a rich, bored socialite he finds himself increasingly interested as he uncovers hidden layers under her façade, while also finding himself with an unwanted attraction to Catwoman.

Catwoman, Harlequin and Ivy wreak havoc on Gotham, each with their own agenda, making fools of the Batwing and law enforcement. As Catwoman toys with Batwing she realizes there’s more to him than she assumed.

As I listened I kept wondering where we were going with the story, and it all comes together in the end making for a good read. I was a little disappointed in Catwoman’s initial prejudices and biases, thankfully she was able to realize not all her assumptions were true. I don’t know all the ins and outs of the DC Batman comic world, so I can’t attest to how it fits with the lore, but as a Catwoman fan I enjoyed it. There was a little something for everyone, bad-ass girl power taking on the establishment, Harley and Ivy’s relationship, a bi-racial, opposite sides romance, PTSD recovery, rising from the ashes as well as what lengths someone will go through for love.
