A twist on Snow White. In the world of Enchantia, if a woman doesn’t produce a child within the first year her husband can kill her. When several desperate queens turn to magic to have children and eat magic apples to have children. It leads to prophesies and fairytales that affect everyone in the kingdom. One of the children is destined to be the Evil Queen and the Kings seek to kill the children. Some escape and others negotiate a way to live.

Everly and her family escape Enchantia and flee to Earth. Everly and Hartly are raised not knowing who they are until Everly’s powers start to manifest. She was raised on fairytales and magic stories and at seventeen finds out she has magic, and is destined to be the ‘Evil Queen’ even though she doesn’t believe she’s evil, nor does she want be the evil queen. Everly returns to Enchantia to learn about her powers and to protect Hartly, there she finds more painful truths and a strong attraction to the handsome prince Roth Charmaine.

It’s hard to say much more without giving important things away in the story but a quote really sums things up. ‘Every hero is a villain and every villain is a hero.’ As Everly and the other grown children navigate the who’s who in the various fairytales, with the help of meddling witches and seers it’s hard to tell who’s playing which role in the fairytale and will keep you on your toes throughout the story.

This is a long tale but I found it interesting throughout and look forward to future installments in this series.
