Listened to audio narrated by well by Peter Kenny. Who does an admirable job with the plethora of characters in this book.

Cirilla ‘Ciri’ Fiona Elen Riannon was last seen entering the Tower of Swallows and finds herself in an Elven world, where she is once again snared by men who want to impregnant her for their own cause. Ciri’s sole focus is to escape and save Yenefer.

The Witcher and his group are still trying to find Ciri. The Witcher struggles with his vocation and alternates from fulfilling his Witcher duties to swearing off on helping people and killing monsters. I wasn’t a big fan of the waffling Witcher.

Like previous books Sapkowski jumps from multiple viewpoints, as well as time jumps making it a challenging to follow and often had me wondering why did we need this person’s viewpoint and story. Sapkowski also seems to want to thread the actions and events in Ciri’s life to real world fables and mythology.

This book is full of political shenanigan’s, the ugliness of war and a decidedly male bent on sexually abusing and using of women.

With this book finishes Geralt and Ciri’s story and given all Ciri’s been through I really wanted to see more maturity and less stupidity. She’s reactionary and knowing what she faces, she still runs into situations with no thought or plan, causing her to fall into even more danger.

There are some very good moments in this book but they are hidden and bogged down by the bloat of excessive viewpoints and seemingly unrelated story bits.
