Eli is a marine biologist. Brynn was his first kiss and he’s crushed on her since summer camp. The keeps losing those he loves and when Brynn comes back in his life he’s hoping ot keep her.
Brynn Turner is a teacher who returned home after her ex scammed and stole from her. She’s questioning her ability to make good choices and returns home to her two moms to regroup.
Kinsey Davis is struggling to stay alive as her kidney transplant is failing. She was a bully at summer camp and is determined to keep everyone at arms length so that when she dies they won’t be hurt. She’s also keeping a big secret from Brynn.
Deck is Kinsey’s friend with benefits, without the friend part. That’s Kinsey’s rule but he’s determined to be more.
Kinsey will only allow a benefits only relationship with Deck, she can’t make any commitments knowing she is dying. She’s rude and abrasive and difficult to like.
Brynn and Kinsey met at camp. Kinsey was a self-absorbed bully and made Brynn miserable. Years later when Brynn returns to Wildstone to lick her wounds and recover after being taken by a con man, she runs into her camp crush and her nemesis from childhood.
There are so many wonderful, heartfelt, tender and funny moments in this book that I wanted to love it. At the same time these ladies seem to be still living in the past and behaving like teenagers rather than adults. Lies abound and even when second chances are given the lies continue, driving me even more nuts. They both have wonderful men in their lives but rarely take their head out of their butts to appreciate them.
Charming and frustrating. I wished these two had sorted their mess much earlier in the book so we could see them mature.
