Don’t You Dare My Dear by Charlie Lane

Series – The Debutante Diaries

Main characters – Edmund Crenshaw, Viscount Escher, Katherine Brighton

Set in 1817
Edmund Crenshaw, Viscount Escher had found the love of his life but his father asking her sister to marry him ruined his own hopes of marriage. He’s a fun loving, quick to laugh, dedicated man, with a boyish charm but is committed to being a bachelor if he can’t convince Katherine to marry him.

Katherine Brighton is a widow who has been taking care of her younger sister ever since their parents’ deaths. She’s thirty-four and ready to live her own life, and write stories to support herself. But she finds herself still taking care of her sister even ever her sister is married.

Katherine has spoiled and coddled her sister so much that she has become dependent upon her for everything. She gave up the love of her life to be free of her sister but still hasn’t broken the chains. A wine-soaked night weakens her resolve to stay away and has given Edmund hope again.

Their story is a bit of a fanciful lark. It’s been two years since she turned down his proposal but after a heated evening Edmund’s patience shows signs of hope and he’s going to run with it to spend the rest of his life with Katherine. Edmund is the fanciful dreamer to Katherine’s serious martyrdom and I wasn’t always a fan of either of them. These characters are a bit over the top at times in their own unique way but their story is sweet, with a great epilogue.
