The Fearless One by Lori Foster

Story 3 of 5 stars

Heat 4 of 5 stars

Series – Osborn Brothers

Main characters – Memphis Osborn, Jedidiah ‘Diah’ Stephens

Jedidiah ‘Diah’ Stephens grew up on the run. After her guardian dies, she is determined to find answers in hopes of finally feeling safe again. She’s a jack-of-all-trades, determined to secure a job at the campgrounds that might give her the answers she’s looking for, along with her adopted Lab, Tuff. She has a lot of fears and insecurities but doesn’t let them stop her from her mission.

Memphis Osborn a tech expert who bought a rundown campground with a mission in mind, but things take a sideways curve when Diah arrives and demands he give her a job.

These two are both keeping secrets about their past and their true motives for being at the campground even as their slow burn attraction draws them together. Memphis knows she’s up to something, he wants to help. As his attraction and admiration grow, he hopes to convince her to stay, while she keeps one foot ready to go out the door.

While there are great characters and cameos from characters from previous books, the story and the relationship move very slowly. I love Lori Foster and usually get comfy and prepare for a sweet, comfy, gooey, suspense but I struggled with this one. It had a great opening scene when they first met but then the story fizzled out for me and it was difficult to stay in the story. I had a hard time connecting to these characters and their relationship. The story didn’t really pick up again until Remmy and other characters came on the scene, then everything felt rushed to finish.

I definitely had mixed feelings on this installment in the series but I hope Remmy will be next in the series.

Stronger Than you Know by Lori Foster

Story 5 of 5 stars

Heat 5 of 5 stars

Series – McKenzies of Ridge Trail

Main Characters – Reyes McKenzie, Kennedy Brooks

So first off don’t let the cover art fool you. This is not a western romance. This is story about a woman who escaped from Human Traffickers but is still being hunted by them and a family determined to take them down, while helping survivors regain their lives.

Reyes McKenzie is considered the brash one of his family. He uses his gym to keep ears on the ground about any possible leads. When his mother committed suicide after being rescued from traffickers his father created a task force to rescue, counsel and provide assistance for survivors and take out the traffickers. Reyes, his brother and sister make a formidable team to stop the bad guys.

Kennedy Brooks escaped from human traffickers and went on to write a book about her ordeal and how to be more aware of the dangers. She also travels a lot on speaking engagements to help others be more aware. She still feels traumatized and stuck in the past but others see her as a strong, courageous woman.

When Kennedy returns home to find her apartment on fire and strange men waiting for her, she reaches out to the one person she thinks might be able to help, Reyes. He and his family come to the rescue and he ends up taking her into his home to protect her.

Watching these two grow close and falling in love was sweet and endearing. Foster does an amazing job of blending danger and suspense with a touching love story. Not only did I fall in love with these two, but I got to see the beginning dance between Madison (Reyes’ sister) and Detective Cosby. I enjoyed this story so much and I can’t wait for Madison’s story. The McKenzies of Ridge Trail series will touch your heart and has amazing characters you’ll want to keep reading about.

This story includes scenes that may be difficult for some readers due to violence and criminal behavior. Read at your own discretion.

The Rogue (prev. A Man in a Million) by J.R. Ward writing as Jessica Bird

Story 3 of 5 stars

Heat 4 of 5 stars

Series – Moorehouse Legacy

Hero – Michael ‘Spike’ Moriarty

Heroine – Madeline Maquire

Spike full of tattoos and bad boy image as well as a celebrated French chef. He also is an ex-con and believes his past crime makes him unworthy to be loved long term.

Madeline is a professional athlete, a navigator on a boat racing crew. She comes from a wealthy family that emotionally beat her to the grown making her believe she was less than a woman and ignoring all her accomplishments.

When these two weren’t getting in their own way there were wonderful together but unfortunately almost the entire book is made up of them making bad choices and letting the past distort their views on reality.

I liked that Mad eventually reclaims her self-worth, I just wish the growth between these characters had happened earlier in the book, so we had more than a minute to enjoy this couple being happy.

The Somerset Girls by Lori Foster

Story 4 of 5 stars

Heat 3 of 5 stars

Series – n/a

Main Characters – Autumn Somerset, Tash Ducker, Ember Somerset, Mike Brewer

Autumn is an interior designer, she’s the reliable, steadfast sister to Ember who is the beautiful, wild child, who is the builder in the family. I loved these sisters, while family dynamics are not always easy these two always have each others backs.

In this story you get not one but two romances, an adorable little girl who is overcoming abuse with the help of a dedicated loving father, charming rescue animals and a bevy of interesting characters that make for a charming, warmhearted read.

Autumn has crushed on Tash since high school and when he returns to town with a traumatized daughter in tow, her heart is lost to both of them as she redesigns their space.
Ember is still suffering a year after losing her baby and works hard to not let it show but their farm handy man Mike sees through it all and is determined to reach her.

While most of the story is devoted to Autumn, Tash and Sadie there’s plenty to enjoy of Ember and Mike’s story, as well as their crazy parents. If your looking for a feel good romance, you won’t be disappointed.
