Sometimes I’m afraid where my author is going to take me, even knowing she’ll carry me to the other side, no matter how crazy it gets. Hill delivers another amazing story, that will take you from some extreme BDSM scenes to exploring the depths of the soul, that had me crying more than once, as well as laughing out loud. I may have cursed her a few times for the roller coaster ride but it’s her amazing talent that has me dropping everything to read her next story.

When a terrible tragedy sends Les running to Brick’s door, she only wants him to punish her for her failures, he wants to punish her for pleasure but first has to help her through this difficult emotional time.

Les has had submissive fantasies for years but only truly experiences it when Brick takes her under his protective wing. He will protect her heart and support her with a Master’s guiding and sometimes punishing hand, while helping her heal past traumas that are deeply affecting her still today.

I loved how supportive Brick was without trying to lead her down one choice or the other. The heat from these two isn’t just from Fire Play, their connection is so deep, I felt all the emotional turmoil and sensual heat right along with them. She had me looking for some ice to put out my own heat and hushing myself from the giddy giggling.

Extra bonus we got to see the whole loving family: Marcus and Thomas, Rory and Daralyn and their mother Elaine. I loved seeing these characters again and how supportive they were in their own way for Les. I may have to re-read their stories again.

Hill brings you into her world and you don’t ever want to leave. This book took me longer to read because after certain scenes I just wanted to hold on to the feelings evoked and I would put it down to just savor what I just experienced. Another great read by Joey W. Hill.

Listened to audio narrated well by Keira Grace. She really brought this second book in the series alive. I enjoyed all of her various voices, making listening effortless.

This story continues right where ‘The Vampire Queen’ ended, after a relived memory. Lady Elyssa is still Queen but she’s also dying and Jacob is determined to be with her to the end. He will do whatever is necessary to help prolong her life and give her a chance to secure her people’s safety.
Hill takes us into a highly sexualized world of Vampires who enjoy using their slaves in creative ways. But she also draws you into the special relationship between Elyssa and Jacob that is outside the norms of the vampire world. A love so fierce and strong it transcends time and the machinations of others.

I LOVE this couple and have re-read this story many times over the years. Now that I have it in audio and I enjoy the narration, I’ll be revisiting their story more often.

Listened to audio narrated well by Keira Grace. First things first, I have waited for the audio to come out for YEARS! I was so stoked when I found out this was finally happening this year. It was worth the wait and if you guys like this one the next audio book is in the works for ‘The Mark of the Vampire Queen.’ Kiera Grace does a good job with both Elyssa and Jacob but there were some unique pronunciations which I’m still trying to figure out were intentional or not.

Jacob has wandered most of his life until he sees her, while on a vampire hunt and everything changes for him.

Elyssa is the vampire queen, a born vampire with a Fey father, she commands immense power and yet she is dying. Betrayed by her husband, she prepares to face her death alone until her previous servant sends her Jacob. Lyssa doesn’t want to lose another servant, nor take him with her when she dies but Jacob will do anything to be with her and protect her.

Wanting to serve a vampire Queen, who is an intense dominant, isn’t easy. Watching an alpha male who only wants to protect and serve find a way to submit and yet not, is not always easy to watch but it is fascinating.

These are not glittery vampires, they are deadly and they like their sexual games. There’s lots of hot steamy sex, heavy BDSM, and pushing the limits of consent versus submission, interwoven into an amazing story of love and devotion. LOVE this couple, you’ll want to have ‘The Mark of the Vampire Queen’ handy to continue their story.
