The Fearless One by Lori Foster

Story 3 of 5 stars

Heat 4 of 5 stars

Series – Osborn Brothers

Main characters – Memphis Osborn, Jedidiah ‘Diah’ Stephens

Jedidiah ‘Diah’ Stephens grew up on the run. After her guardian dies, she is determined to find answers in hopes of finally feeling safe again. She’s a jack-of-all-trades, determined to secure a job at the campgrounds that might give her the answers she’s looking for, along with her adopted Lab, Tuff. She has a lot of fears and insecurities but doesn’t let them stop her from her mission.

Memphis Osborn a tech expert who bought a rundown campground with a mission in mind, but things take a sideways curve when Diah arrives and demands he give her a job.

These two are both keeping secrets about their past and their true motives for being at the campground even as their slow burn attraction draws them together. Memphis knows she’s up to something, he wants to help. As his attraction and admiration grow, he hopes to convince her to stay, while she keeps one foot ready to go out the door.

While there are great characters and cameos from characters from previous books, the story and the relationship move very slowly. I love Lori Foster and usually get comfy and prepare for a sweet, comfy, gooey, suspense but I struggled with this one. It had a great opening scene when they first met but then the story fizzled out for me and it was difficult to stay in the story. I had a hard time connecting to these characters and their relationship. The story didn’t really pick up again until Remmy and other characters came on the scene, then everything felt rushed to finish.

I definitely had mixed feelings on this installment in the series but I hope Remmy will be next in the series.

The Dangerous One by Lori Foster

Story 5 of 5 stars

Heat 4 of 5 stars

Series – Osborn Brothers

Main characters – Hunter Osborn, Jodi Bentley

Hunter Osborn was a park ranger, but something went terribly wrong eighteen months ago and he’s been living alone with a rescue hound.

Jodi Bentley has a dark past but with help from the Mackenzie’s elite task force she healed and found a purpose. She’s tough as nails, self-sufficient and determined to try live the “”everyday life, for the everyday woman.’

Trying to live a normal life, Jodi buys a small, rundown house and starts her own lawncare business. She’s prickly and a straight shooter but I fell in love with her tenaciousness to live her life and not let what happened to her ruin her future.

Hunter is drawn to her the moment he first saw her but he has his own wounds to heal.

Jodi finds herself in the cross hairs of killers and madmen, and while she’s willing to take them all on, Hunter can’t stop wanting to protect her.

I love this partnership and that while Hunter really wanted to mothball her, he knew her well enough to be her partner. Their story is a slow burn with sparks, and MacKenzie cameos and I enjoyed every minute of their story.

On a side note, I don’t think the cover does the story justice.

The Honeymoon Cottage by Lori Foster

Story 4 of 5 stars

Heat 4 of 5 stars

Main Characters – Travis Long, Yardley Belanger, Amelia ‘Mimi’ May, Kevin

Yardley Belanger is a thirty-one-year-old wedding planner. She grew up with her aunt and mother’s constant bickering and belittling. She survived her child with the help of her best friend Mimi. She’s an incredibly multi-talented, organized lady with a big heart and a panache for getting things done, but she doesn’t seem to know how much others love and appreciate her.

Travis Long raised his much younger sister after their parents died. He made her a priority in his life and now he’s paying for the wedding of her dreams. He’s a builder, a contractor and enjoys restoring old Victorian homes.

Amelia ‘Mimi’ May is Yardley’s best friend. She’s just become a new mother after suffering from two miscarriages. Kevin is her loving and devoted husband whom she’s afraid doesn’t want her anymore. Mimi is brash, bold and outgoing but has become insecure and worried since giving birth and dealing with her new mom body. Kevin has changed since almost watching his wife die after giving birth to their little girl. Both are worried and stressed but no one is talking to each other.

Travis and Yardley were attracted the moment they met but she couldn’t date a client and he wouldn’t allow a relationship to interfere with his sister’s happiness. But they both loved Victorian homes, and found themselves connecting over mutual interests and attraction. Their story is a sweet, slow burn as they appreciate each other for who they really are and falling deeper in love each day.

Yardley’s talent of bringing people together and giving sage advice, solves problems and creates unexpected new friendships, that will leave you smiling as you read the last page but also a little sad the visit to Cemetery is over.

Foster delivers a wonderfully unique cast of characters that all have their own troubles and worries within a feel-good story. While I enjoyed the story, the writing was done from various viewpoints that would switch unexpectedly and made me stop to think about it more than a few times. I often enjoy multiple points of view but the transitions were a bit too choppy for me. I did receive an advanced copy and the final copy may have editing that fixes this issue.
