Izabel Serra is an analytical venture capitalist. and a legacy member of the Trinity Masters. A high achiever, brought up in a lavish world but trained and ready to take on anything the world throws at her. She’s been looking forward to her trinity ever since she joined at eighteen. At thirty-four she’s ready to begin this new chapter in her life with her trinity, and hopes it’s as wonderful as her parents’ trinity.

Brennon Reyes is a talented Hollywood screenwriter. He’s easy going, finding stories inspired by all around him. Quick witted and ready to diffuse situations with a story or joke.

Rowan Green is a ex-soldier, who carries a lot of guilt and pain from his last mission. He was pilot for a Special Operations Aviation Regiment, nicknamed the Night Stalkers.

Juliette Adams Lissand is the Grand Master of the Trinity Masters. She was kidnapped with one of her husbands, Devon Asher, the same night as Brennon, Rowan and Izabel. While her third, Franco Santiago was left behind.

I usually like to break down a story in my reviews but I think that will give too much away. What I will say is there are kidnappings, intense torture, and a threat to the Trinity Masters themselves as well as the main characters. This is an intense read, that plunges the reader into the story, bringing us along with the characters as their kidnappers attempt to break them down, as well as their recovery after. They may be beaten but they find they are stronger than they knew, especially together.

‘Stolen Faith’ may be a hard read for sensitive readers, read at your own discretion.

In saying all of that, Carr and Dubois handle these situations with an authenticity that is not always present in other stories like this. They also helped readers transition from the intensity of the main story by giving readers a huge tantalizing tease in the epilogue for the next Masters’ Admiralty book. Leaving me smiling at the end.

Main characters – Luke, Keira

Luke is a gargoyle. He and two other monster friends go to Hollywood in hopes of fixing their image among humans. Not wanting to make any mistakes in the human world he initially comes across as hesitant and very careful. He’s naive and unsure in the human world, bolder and dominant in his own element.

Keira is a strong, independent, woman who joined with four friends to create Calypso Productions, a cutting-edge Hollywood production studio. She’s the creative director and one of the producers, who isn’t afraid to reach out and take what she wants.

Luke and his friends bungle their pitch to the women. Hoping to change their mind he takes Keira to dinner. Their heat has them tumbling into bed, but when morning comes Luke accidentally outs himself.

This story was previously released in 2008 as ‘Lights, Camera… Monster.’ Dubois has made revisions as well as expanded on the original release. So, I was surprised to see editing errors. I love Lila Dubois and her stories but this one just seemed to be missing something. Normally I fall into her stories, feeling all the feels but I never felt like I broke the surface of this book. There are definitely some great scenes but more than once I felt like I was being told how things were, rather than experiencing it. I was left wishing for a bit more story to go with all the spice. An interesting first book in the ‘Monsters in Hollywood’ series.

Author warning: the story includes gargoyle-on-human sex scenes. While warnings are always appreciated, I didn’t find anything squicky about the scenes, kinky… yes… squicky? not really.

Josslyn is a submissive masochist, who has never had her needs fully met. A husband who died too young, and made her feel like a burden. She is a strong capable woman, who hasn’t found the one to meet her needs until Ilias.

Ilias Bennani aka Master Ben is a sadist, who plays with partners who give him their full and complete submission. A careful, insightful Dom who plans an executes scenes to meet everyone’s needs.

This is an intense story, with intense scenes and a couple that thrives in the sadist and masochist dynamic. They are perfect for each other and have amazing chemistry.

I was completely entrenched in their story until the last chapter. The transition from the end of chapter 15 to chapter 16 was a huge disconnect for me. It jumped and it felt like part of their story was cut. The ending also felt very abrupt, leaving me feeling shoved out of a story I very much wanted to continue. I needed more of a segue after the intensity of what happened. I received an advanced copy and the published book may have changed.

Benjamin Dara is a Legacy within Trinity Masters. He grew up privileged, in a wealthy family and believes he can obtain anything he desires. A driving force that doesn’t understand the word can’t.

John Wilson is an LAPD Detective who joined after the Mayor of LA recommended him. He grew up in the foster system after being abandoned by this mother and was looking forward to having a ready-made family he could have as his own. He’s extremely successful closing cases but he guards his heart fiercely, unwilling to be abandoned again.

Kailani Iona is also a Legacy. She grew up in Hawaii and works for her family’s hotel businesses. She is passionate about her environmental conservation work. She’s a powerful woman with a tender heart that never recovered after Benjamin walked away when they were in college.

These three were excited to finally be called for their Trinity marriage, until they discovered who their new partners were going to be. Kailani and Benjamin have past history that turned love into bitterness. Kialani wants their Trinity dissolved, if that can’t be done it will be in name only. John hopes of family seem to be dwindling before his eyes.

When the Grandmaster and one of her husbands is kidnapped, keyholders are activated to safeguard the Trinity Masters. Kailani is one of those keyholders. She must go in person to notify the other keyholders to find out who will be the interim Grand Master. Her Trinity may be falling apart but they won’t let her face this task alone. They were able to avoid each other before this but put these three in the same room and things get combustible. While they may be good in bed, old hurts and betrayals are harder to manage and let go.

This story focuses on Benjamin, John and Kailani’s Trinity while dropping bits and pieces of the on-going troubles within their organization and cameos from other Trinities we’ve met previously. A good read with lots of heat while managing an emotional rocky road. This story is less about action and more about emotions with the kidnapping arc left to be continued in future installments.
