Main characters – Mather Lucas, Rowan
Mather Lucas is owner of several successful night clubs on the West Coast. After the woman he loved abandoned him and their two-year-old girl, he did his best to be the best father he could be. Mather hasn’t been interested in more than brief sexual encounters until Rowan.
Rowan is smart, confident woman who’s been in love with her best friend’s father forever. She’s twenty, working at the club to earn enough to get away from an abusive step-dad and manage her own life.
After a night partying with her friend, she makes a move on Mather and it takes all his willpower to walk away. The problem is she pushes all his buttons and the heat between them is burning them both up.
I enjoyed their story until it started feeling like everything and the kitchen sink was being thrown in with no real depth or connectivity. Events happen and then they disappear. It almost felt like three different stories were stitched together into one, they happen and move on so quickly none of them were done justice. I also struggled with how they’d argue about something then suddenly it’s resolved and I’m left wondering how did they get there.
